[the title] - The song's Japanese title is しあわせレストラン, which at first glance seems to mean 'Happy (幸せ) Restaurant', but the more you listen to the song and watch the video, the more it seems like it's supposed to be read as ' ‘Synchronised Death (死合わせ) Restaurant’, which is a pretty common wordplay in Japanese. Interestingly, only people whose language is set to Japanese would get blindsided by this, since the English title just outright calls itself a 'nightmare' restaurant.

[1] - Searching this term up, apparently the way babies sleep with their hands up is referred to as a 'banzai (hooray)' position. I've taken this to mean that this lyric isn't referring to a literal baby and more to the idea of one holding their hands up.

You let your phone drop to the bathroom counter, blinking slowly, unable to fathom the conversation that had just taken place. Had he really just said those things? Scrolling through the texts confirmed that yes, he had indeed. The bastard.

Charles had always been the jealous type. But attacking you like that when he had been the one to… It was absolutely ridiculous. Apparently he still couldn’t—or wouldn’t—grasp the depths of how much he had actually hurt you.

You’d loved him with all of your heart. Until he had ripped it out and hurled it to the floor, letting it shatter into a million tiny pieces. Yet, even then, you would’ve forgiven him. If only he’d apologised. If only he’d shown true remorse. But he hadn’t. And so you’d been forced to walk the path of mending your own heart, and move on with your life.

Perhaps a small part of you had hoped that he could be happy for you. That somehow, even after everything, you would be able to greet each other normally—that you could coexist peacefully. But as his texts just now had demonstrated, that wasn’t going to happen. Not right now. And definitely not next week in Texas. You sighed. It would’ve been too good to be true, anyway. Especially considering who you were currently seeing…

A light knock sounded at the door, startling you out of those thoughts. 

“Are you almost ready to go, darling?” a male voice asked, soft.

Right. Dinner. Celebrations. 

You had been in the midst of applying the finishing touches to your makeup and outfit before Charles had interrupted, quite literally shocking you to the core when his name had appeared on your lock screen. He’d been the last person you’d expected to hear from today.

You swallowed the bitter taste that Charles’ texts had managed to leave behind. He wasn’t worth it, you repeated to yourself. You weren’t going to let his shenanigans ruin a perfect night—a perfect date. You ran a hand through your hair and readjusted the necklace around your neck when the bathroom door creaked open behind you. 

Looking up, your eyes met your handsome, new boyfriend’s through the mirror. He was smiling, eyebrows raised in silent question, ever patient as he waited for you to finish up. You felt your pulse quicken at the sight of him, dressed to perfection in a dark suit, hair neatly tousled.

As always, his presence was able to reassure you within the blink of an eye, the tense muscles in your neck and shoulders relaxing as you gladly let all of your complex emotions fall away.

“Yes,” you nodded, a genuine smile spreading across your lips. “I’m ready.”

YouTuber Markiplier Got Passes From Everyone in Hollywood — So, He Made a Hit His Way

Podcast adaptation 'The Edge of Sleep' from New Regency spent the weekend on Amazon Prime Video's most watched TV chart, but, as the YouTuber and team reveals, it didn't get there through traditional channels.

In 2019, 'The Edge of Sleep', the latest offering from Mark Fischbach, known to his 37 million YouTube subscribers as Markiplier, was pitched to every major platform in Hollywood.

By then, 'The Edge of Sleep' was already a popular podcast. In fact, it quickly became the biggest genre narrative podcast of all time, with some 6 million downloads and counting. And for the television adaptation, Markiplier would be reprising his role as a night watchman, who attempts to survive a mysterious global crisis where anyone who goes to sleep dies. The podcast’s creators, Jake Emanuel and Willie Block, were on board to write and run the TV version, and Longlegs producer Brian Kavanaugh Jones was attached to produce. There would be six episodes, made on a relative shoestring budget, served up to a rapt audience that Markiplier has cultivated for more than a decade with a channel primarily focused on Let’s Play videos.

Curtis, who’s represented Markiplier for eight years, wasn’t particularly surprised by the deluge of nos. As he tells it, Hollywood has never been willing to take his client seriously. The feedback? “Oh, the YouTuber? No, thanks.’ Just totally dismissive,” he says via Zoom, insisting the entire reason that they did 'The Edge of Sleep' as a QCODE-produced podcast first was because they wanted something to be able to show skittish buyers when they ultimately shopped the TV adaptation. It was also the reason that Curtis, whose client roster over the years has included Rami Malek and Veep‘s Timothy Simons, urged Markiplier to do his second podcast, Distractible, an unscripted offering featuring him and a few buddies.

“I went to Mark three years ago and I said, ‘Hey, look, I’m not getting a lot of love and respect for you in the market, you should do a podcast because I know you can build one of the biggest podcasts in the world. And at that point, I think traditional Hollywood will say, “Oh wow, you just knocked out Joe Rogan from No. 1 on Spotify. Let’s pay attention,”’” says Curtis. “And then he did that, and people still didn’t care. It’s been seven years now of trying to get traditional Hollywood to pay attention.” (For the record, Spotify did, allegedly inking an eight-figure dealfor him to host video episodes of Distractible and other podcasts.)

Markiplier is considerably more diplomatic. “I’m trying to show people [in Hollywood] that there is a different way, but at the same time, I do understand the mistrust of some creators,” he tells THR, acknowledging it was daunting to leap from his own videos to large-scale productions, with crews in the hundreds, even for him, who had scaled up gradually. “A YouTuber going into that is used to doing everything themself, so to learn to both collaborate with others and to let go a little and trust those who are experts in their department, it’s tough — especially when you have a distributor or some production company overseeing it or paying for it who wants to have input. It’s hard, and YouTubers can be very egotistical.” (Though he was simply an actor-for-hire and not a creative engine on Edge of Sleep, Markiplier still managed to butt heads with his producers, including the time he insisted upon licensing and editing in a different opening theme song, which he ultimately did with his own money.)

Most in Markiplier’s situation would have cut their losses and moved on. He hardly needs Hollywood, after all. But he didn’t generate nearly 17 billion video views by doing what others would do. “And I have a desire to prove myself and prove that I can play at other people’s games just as well as they can,” he says. So, he and the team, which also includes Oddfellows’ Chris Ferguson and director Corey Adams, among others, decided to forgo the traditional route. Markiplier agreed to put up a portion of the financing, and figure out a distribution strategy later. On Kavanaugh Jones’ recommendation, New Regency was recruited to come aboard as the studio and foot the remainder of the bill.

So, with COVID-19 still raging, the cast and crew decamped to Vancouver in the summer of 2021. The shoot lasted 25 days across 35 different locations, a triumph given the protocols in place at the time. According to New Regency’s chairman and CEO Yariv Milchan, it was a bet worth taking. “New Regency has a history of recognizing potential where others haven’t. Projects like The Revenant and Bohemian Rhapsody had been overlooked for years, yet we saw their value and brought them to life,” he says via email, adding: “With The Edge of Sleep, we saw a different potential in the unique combination of the largely untapped creativity from Markiplier and his dedicated fanbase, along with the success of the original QCODE podcast. We were inspired by the challenge to create, together with Markiplier and QCODE, a series at the right budget while embracing innovative marketing approaches.” (Though everybody’s staying mum on said budget, it’s said to be a small fraction of a typical prestige drama.)

In 2023, with a nearly completed series, they took it out once more. This time, they did so with the first episode available for potential buyers to preview. Again, they were greeted with a succession of passes. Curtis, who’s also an executive producer on the project, isn’t even sure they bothered to open the link and sample it. “It was the same thing, ‘No.’ ‘No.’ ‘No.’ And that’s the point at which 99.9 percent of Hollywood quits, it’s over,” he says. “But we knew, with Mark, you have this special ingredient that people truly undervalue — and he’s a complete genius in marketing to his fans.” 

He was confident that Markiplier could and would activate his audience. After all, he’d seen him do it many times before. A few years back, for instance, Markiplier had a YouTube channel called Unus Annus (“One Year” in Latin), where he posted a new video every day for a year, culminating in a 12-hour live stream on day 365 that ended with him deleting the entire channel. At one point, Curtis says there were 1.3 million concurrent viewers watching; and, in 24 hours, he says Markiplier managed to sell $19 million of merchandise. “And that was something that we couldn’t pay people to write about or talk about. No one cared,” says Curtis, who acknowledges he has a chip on his shoulder on his client’s behalf. “I mean, there’s less than 50 people in the entire world who could do that. We’re talking, like, Taylor Swift, Kardashian type stuff.”

Last month, Hollywood finally got its taste for Markiplier’s power. Over on YouTube, his platform of choice, he released a video announcing that Edge of Sleep would be coming out in a matter of weeks. That video, which didn’t even tell people where they could watch the series, racked up 3.5 million views. Then, on Oct. 18, the full season dropped on Amazon Prime Video via the Prime Video Direct content submission portal — or, technically, it was uploaded a few days before, for quality control. Almost instantly, and without any real promotion, it had broken into the Prime Video’s Top 10, where it remained, hovering around No. 6 or 7 through the weekend.

By Friday, a trailer dropped on both QCODE and New Regency’s social media, and Prime Video posted a clip on its social channels. A paid media buy launched that day, too. Later that evening, Markiplier called an “Emergency Meeting” of his fans, which turned into him hosting a three-hour livestream, during which he urged everyone to tune in and rate the series, as his goal now is to stay on the Top 10 TV chart for 30 days. In success, there will be a second season, and ideally distribution outside the U.S. According to the Amazon site, Content providers to Prime Video Direct receive 50 percent of net revenue for titles that are available to buy or rent. By Sunday, 1.2 million had checked out the livestream video just to hear him field questions about the making of the series, his first foray into scripted and dramatic TV. (He talked, too, about Iron Lung, a bloody film that he acts in and directs, for which he’s currently seeking a theatrical distributor.)

The irony of its success over on Prime Video, one of many platforms that passed on Edge of Sleep when it came through the traditional channels, is not lost on Markiplier or his rep. “We definitely want to break glass,” Curtis says. “We want people to pay attention to the fact that this guy who was told no over and over again is so powerful that he can launch a TV show to great success on his own.”

Her upcoming album needed to be perfect—her first full R&B project had to show her evolution as an artist.

At twenty-seven, she knew the cruel mathematics of the industry. Female soloists had to constantly reinvent themselves to stay relevant, especially ones who'd debuted as young as she had. Fifteen years in the industry had taught her that talent alone wasn't enough; you needed to stay ahead of the curve.

She played a melody line again, something sultry and smooth that had been haunting her for days but couldn't quite capture the emotion she was reaching for. The notes echoed through the carefully acoustic-treated room, bouncing off the dark wood panels she'd had installed when she bought the building three years ago. This studio was her sanctuary, the one place she could truly be herself away from the cameras and expectations.

The door burst open, making her jump. Na Ra, her manager of six years, practically bounced into the room, her usually perfectly styled bob slightly disheveled from what appeared to be a rushed journey. Yeon-jin hadn't seen her this excited since they'd won their first Daesang.

"You're never going to believe this," Na Ra said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She was clutching her phone like it might try to escape. "I just got off the phone with BigHit."

Yeon-jin's heart skipped a beat. Everyone in the industry knew BigHit. The company had revolutionized K-pop, breaking down international barriers that artists like her had only dreamed of when they started. "What's going on?"

"Jungkook. He heard your cover of 'Stay With Me' on that radio show last month. He wants to collaborate. Not just one song—he's talking about a full R&B album."

The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Yeon-jin gripped the piano bench to steady herself. "Jungkook? THE Jungkook?"

"Unless you know another global superstar by that name," Na Ra teased, but her expression softened seeing Yeon-jin's overwhelmed look. She sat down beside her on the piano bench, their shoulders touching in a familiar gesture of comfort. "This could be exactly what we've been looking for. Your vocal color would blend perfectly with his, and you know his solo work has been leaning more toward R&B lately."

Yeon-jin's mind raced with possibilities. She'd always admired BTS from afar, watching as they achieved the kind of global success most Korean artists only dreamed about. And Jungkook... his talent was undeniable. His recent solo projects showcased a maturity and depth that had caught the attention of critics worldwide.

"Did they say why?" she asked, still trying to process the news. "Why me?"

Na Ra pulled up an article on her phone, showing a video clip from the radio show. Yeon-jin watched herself perform the cover, remembering how nervous she'd been that day. She'd chosen the song on a whim, wanting to show a different side of herself.

"According to his team, he's been following your work for a while. He specifically mentioned your OST from 'Moonlight Garden' and that jazz collaboration you did with the Seoul Philharmonic last year." Na Ra's eyes gleamed. "He said your voice has the kind of emotional depth he's been looking for."

The compliment sent a warm flutter through Yeon-jin's chest. She'd poured her heart into that OST, staying up for days to get the feeling just right. To know that someone like Jungkook had not only heard it but connected with it...

"When would this happen?" she asked, already mentally reorganizing her schedule.

"They want to start next week. His team sent over a preliminary contract..." Na Ra pulled out a thick folder from her bag. "Everything looks standard, but I'll have legal review it tonight. The initial commitment would be for three months of dedicated studio time."

Three months. Three months of working closely with one of the most talented artists of their generation. The opportunity was incredible, but the pressure would be immense. Every move they made would be scrutinized by fans and media alike.

"What about my album?" Yeon-jin gestured to the scattered sheet music around her.

"This could be your album," Na Ra said softly. "A collaboration of this scale... it could take both of your careers in a whole new direction."

Yeon-jin stood, walking to the window. The sun was setting now, painting the Seoul skyline in shades of pink and gold. From this high up, she could see the endless stream of cars below, each person living their own story, making their own choices.

She thought about the lonely teenager who'd spent countless hours practicing in shabby noraebang rooms, dreaming of moments like this. That girl would have never believed she'd come this far and would have never imagined being considered an equal by someone like Jungkook.

"We'll need to clear my schedule," she said finally, turning back to Na Ra with a determined smile. "And I should start reviewing his discography tonight."

Na Ra was already typing rapidly on her phone. "I'll have your stylist put together some options for the first meeting. And I'll tell BigHit we're interested in moving forward."

"Ra-yah," Yeon-jin called softly, using the nickname from their trainee days together. "Thank you. For everything."

Her manager looked up, her eyes suspiciously bright. "Just don't forget me when you're winning Grammy awards with your new superstar partner."

Yeon-jin laughed, feeling some of the tension release from her shoulders. "As if you'd let me."

That night, long after Na Ra had left, Yeon-jin sat in her home studio, headphones on, listening to Jungkook's entire discography. She made notes about his vocal range, his stylistic choices, and the way he approached different genres. But more than that, she listened to the emotion in his voice, the stories he told through his music.

As dawn broke over Seoul, she finally took off her headphones, her mind full of melodies and possibilities. Whatever came next, she knew one thing for certain: this collaboration would change everything.

(Some) Sakuverse Characters as Songs

These thoughts have been fermenting in my mind for a while. Originally I wanted to turn this into something similar to my Sakuverse Characters as Paintings-Post, but I lacked both the time and motivation. So have this drastically watered down version of my original idea instead.

Isaac Rhoades -- Heavy In Your Arms, Florence + The Machine

I think Isaac would view his love as a heavy love ("My love has concrete feet / My love's an iron ball"). He views himself that way, considering the emotional baggage he brings into the relationship. Also, musically these somber but strangely soft tones together with the vulnerability of the lyrics create an ensemble that reminds me of Isaac's character.

Alex -- Gold, Sir Sly

Perhaps my characterisation of Alex is a bit off here, given the way his series ended. However, his ambition is an integral part of his character in my eyes. His self-worth is tied to his accomplishments, which is why I settled on this angsty-melancholic song. "Pocket full of gold and I hope you find / I hope you find your dream / And darling, never settle, settle, settle / Chasing down the devil, devil / Chasing down the gods and I hope you find / I hope you find your dream // I got a million ways of losing / But nothing in my life worth proving / Chasing, all my time is wasted" is fitting for his character in this regard, comprising how his ambition both destroys him and is simultaneously what gives him, in his own eyes, meaning while also leaving him unfulfilled.

Zaros Atha'lin -- Bridges, ALIKA

I think this works on two levels. First of all Zaros' political ideas quite literally being a policy of bridges, to bring Serulla together and reduce the cliff between the nobles and the people. "Now I see myself / Building up a world of bridges" feels like his whole policy.

Second, I think the longing in this song, together with both the vulnerability it expresses both in the lyrics ("Realized that all the lies I've told myself have died / Bring me to the place / Where I belong / Filled with all the memories and dreams I have ignored // I remember all the things that I went through / All the lies and blurry lines and city lights I knew / Now I'm strong enough to see what lays inside / And I can feel it all") and in the instrumental, as well as the overall power it gains especially around the 2:41-mark reflect both his ambition and the conflicting emotions he has in regards to the Earis.

Dontis -- Man a Express, Mellow Mood

I just think he would like Reggae. This song I believe is about living life to the fullest and to embrace all the experiences it brings. It feels like a message that aligns with Dontis' personality and his views in general. "And yuh laugh and yuh cry and yuh smile ever more" especially is a line that reflects this, considering that Dontis has suffered greatly in his past but remains kind and positive throughout his long life.

Asirel Cain -- The Mephistopheles of Los Angeles, Marilyn Manson

Thought of this as a sort of title-track to my Asirel novella.

This is largely based on the ominous and empowering vibe of the song. But I also think that the motif of Mephistopheles is fitting for Asirel. "Lazarus has got no dirt on me / And I'll rise every danger // I was fated, faithful, fatal" I think characterises Asirel's tremendous power and the person it has inadvertently turned him into.

Alternatively Blood Sport by Sleep Token is also very Asirel-coded to me.

Elias -- Are You Ready?, Maneskin

This is very based on the vibes of this song. The deep notes during the first chorus ("Ride a benzo, get your bands up" 0:41-048) sound dangerous while the high notes during the second chorus (1:34-1:53) have something wistful about them. The combination suits both Elias role as Warden's son and heir-apparent for the Wraiths as well as his more vulnerable side, his trauma and the fact that this was a life that was thrust upon him and which at least part of him fundamentally resents.

Rowan -- Je Veux, ZAZ

The lighthearted, feel-good vibe of this song similarly states to live life according to ones wishes and not mind the opinions and expectations of others expressed in the lyrics. "Je veux d'l'amour, d'la joie, de la bonne humeur / C'n'est pas votre argent qui f'ra mon bonheur" feels like something that suits Rowan both in the way he views life and how he wants to live it.

Cevyk -- Call Me, Blondie

[insert joke about summoning a demon here]

I think this song has something unhinged about it, and that makes me think of Cevyk. "Call me my love / Call me, call me any, anytime" feels like something he'd say to Iqsus just to mess with them.

Niall -- What Difference Does It Make?, The Smiths

The whole song sounds melancholic to me, plagued by some distant ache that still hurts even though it has scarred over. "So what difference does it make? / It makes none" is the resignation that can be found in Niall at the beginning of his series. "But I'm still fond of you" is the paradox he finds himself in regarding SB and their relationship, both as being someone who hurt him in the past as well as the object of his affections in the present.

Xanthus Claiborne -- Prelude, Op. 28: No. 4 in E Minor, Frédéric Chopin

Xanthus, out of all the characters, is the only one I think suits a classical piece. He has an emotional complexity to him that I feel is best expressed without words. I think the mixture of quiet sadness, longing, despair and resignation this piece goes through as it progresses tells the story of Xanthus life fittingly.

Robbie instantly looks up at Mark, who is standing in front of him while staring past him; with nothing but a stunned expression on his features. “About what?”, Robbie asks, finally turning around. He watches how Y/N shuts the big door behind herself, while her eyes are moving down to his Marlboro Reds. Yes, I bought them because of her, now shut up.

“Well, you know. You being a chain smoker.”

She glances at Mark, before flashing him an unbearably charming smile:” This is so rude, sorry. I’m Y/N.” However, the brunette merely shakes his head:” Yeah, no.” He clears his throat:” I’m aware of who you are- you and your brothers.”

Robbie eyes how she attempts to hide her reddening cheeks behind the sharp movements of lightning up a cigarette. The soft glow of the small flame coats her features and he wonders if he’s falling in love with her. God, she was a stunner. I wasn’t a skilled songwriter back then but I thought I could’ve written a million love songs just about that precise moment. I probably did scribble something down. Most likely rubbish.

“Yeah, sorry about them.”, she answers and chuckles. Out of the corner of his eye, Robbie notices something flashing up in Mark’s eyes. Well, if you’re a Take That fan or maybe an Oasis fan you know what happens later on with these two- if not, fucking strap in.

“They can be pretty loud… I probably have to go back to our table soon anyway, Liam’s convinced that Justin Timberlake tossed that empty beer can against the back of his head. We will probably get thrown out any minute.”

Mark nods.

“Congratulations on winning, by the way.”, she lets out, leaning against the wall. I was thanking the Gods above that I managed to do some cocaine before coming out, otherwise I wouldn’t have had the guts to keep any kind of eye contact with her.

“Which one?”, he asks and he can practically see the way his friend is rolling his eyes. Listen, the thing is I wasn’t able to care. I wanted her. Bad. In the same way, I always wanted to be famous.

hehe yes they absolutely are 🙂‍↕️ best dynamic of any group of people i have ever had the joy to witness. i see how it’s a bit intimidating with their five million songs—when i got into them in 2015 they had 10 years less songs and it still took me weeks to listen to everything and process what i’d heard 🥹 i started out from first album to most recent and i stand by that method bc i firmly believe that the best shinee-listening experience is going full album by full album, just because their entire concept is the fact that their entire concept changes from comeback to comeback (and if i might add in my extremely biased opinion: they do each one masterfully so a shinee album is a neat little thematically coherent delicious package). so i’ll give you a few of my fav albums and you can play a few songs and see what you like! if you come up with some songs you enjoy and wanna hear more of the vibe just lmk and i can expand on my recs.

if you prefer rnb (especially the 00s absolutely desperate ice box by omarion style which just so happens to be my personal favorite) i would go for their first album (the shinee world), with my faves being romantic, replay (ie their debut song and THE quintessential shinee song), graze, and (plug for jonghyun aka one of my fav vocalists ever) y si fuera ella (highly recommend you watch the performance! the thing about shinee is their live performances will always beat the studio versions literally every time)

another shinee classic and prob among my top 3 albums too is 1 of 1 - the concept was broadly ‘retro’ and has sounds reminiscent of mostly the 90s (with some 80s vibes definitely mixed in there if you ask me). the title track is a DELICIOUS nostalgic type (called 1 of 1) and i LOVE shift (this song is mainly why i don’t like to stick to the 90s shtick while describing 1of1 bc it is SO 80s to me—produced by LND noise!) and prism (co-produced by jonghyun and a must-listen if you ask me. again. i encourage watching a live performance bc they’re just. so. good)

also top 3 shinee albums for me and one i have a tattoo for no less so im legally obligated to mention it: Odd! it was a musical turning point for shinee and a comeback to their rnb sound (you must understand between this and their first album they’d BEEN on their eurovision grind with music such as lucifer, ring ding dong, and everybody which is absolutely still enjoyable and arguably got them the most awards/fame/recognition which is why i won’t mention those bc i assume you’ve heard them however! if you haven’t give them a listen you won’t regret it… i think!). anyway odd gave us the summer mega hit that is VIEW.. another must listen if you don’t already know her. and ODD EYE written and produced by jonghyun (are we sensing a pattern here?) which truly.. live performance.. please.. (pattern sensors? anyone?). PLUS i have to mention the repackage that features married to the music as one of their most fun concepts (halloween in the middle of the summer! only shinee 🙂‍↕️)

Sad Girls Club is a fictional sub-unit of the fictional thirteen-member girl group, VIVACE, consisting of five members : EUNMI, NOELLE, ARA, YANA, & HAYEON. VIVACE is split into three active sub-units to promote in, and today, we’ll be exploring their first and most famous unit, Sad Girls Club. Sad Girls Club explores more of VIVACE’s mature side, along with heavily Second Gen inspired music, which has captured the hearts of fans all around the world.

A few weeks after VIVACE’s debut, I-Teen Media announced that they would be debuting their first sub-unit under the name Sad Girls Club. Due to the popularity of ARA, NOELLE, & HAYEON, their debut was hugely anticipated by even non fans of VIVACE. Sad Girls Club debuted on October 2, 2019, with the self-titled mini album “SAD GIRLS CLUB” consisting of five tracks, “Like This” serving as the title track. SAD GIRLS CLUB debuted with 96K album sales, and Like This immediately charted #1 on every South Korean chart within the first week of release, even getting the girls their first win on their second week of promotions.

Sad Girls Club would return six months later on April 4, 2020, with their first single album, “My Attitude”, consisting of two tracks, “Inside Job” serving as the album’s title track. The album debuted with 139K album sales, with Inside Job debuting at #3 on the chart and moving up to #1 a week after release. Inside Job was the start of their slower and more mature sounding music, which gained them a bunch of fans during this era.

A few months later on August 5, 2020, they released their second mini album, “REVOLUTION”, which consists of six tracks including the title track, “VILLAIN”. REVOLUTION is a more noisy and experimental sound than what they usually did but the album still debuted with 194K album sales and debuted #2 on charts.

As an end-of-the-year release, they dropped their third mini album, “WOMAN”, consisting of five tracks, including the title track “Woman”, on December 14, 2020. Woman trended for its second-gen sound and woman-empowering message, which earned the album 482K album sales and #1 across global charts.

Sad Girls Club would only release two things in the year 2021. On May 23, 2021, they put out their first digital single, “Pretty Savage”, which charted #3 on Melon and #2 globally. They would then come back on July 15, 2021, with their fourth mini album, “Movie Star”, consisting of six tracks, including the title track, “N♡︎DE”. They would comment on the unfair standards and sexualization women go through, especially in the music industry, which earned them Album of The Year in 2021. Movie Star would give them their first million-seller album, debuting with 1.3M album sales and all of the songs on the album hitting the top ten on charts.

With the hype from Movie Star starting to die down and having no comeback announcements from Sad Girls Club, fans were beginning to get anxious waiting for a new release. They would release their first full album, “SUPERWOMAN”, on January 28, 2022, consisting of twelve tracks, including the pre-release single, “SUPERLADIES”, and the second title track, “I Am The Best”. SUPERWOMAN is a powerful album about empowering women, self-love, and self-appreciation. SUPERLADIES would gain 85 million views within the first 24 hours and earned them six music show wins. As of August 2024, SUPERLADIES is one of Sad Girls Club’s most viewed music videos, with 953 million views. I Am The Best went viral for its second-gen influence and powerful sound, releasing with 294 million views in the first 24 hours and giving Sad Girls Club eleven music show wins. The music video is currently at 1.2 billion views, their most viewed music video ever. SUPERWOMAN debuted with 7.8M album sales and sold out almost instantly, making it Sad Girls Club’s biggest release.

Sad Girls Club would come back on June 23, 2022, with their fifth mini album, “Club 5”, consisting of five tracks including the title track “Live It Up”. Club 5 shows a slower and more mature side to Sad Girls Club which earned the album 4.8M album sales and Live It Up hitting the top five on the South Korean charts.

They would end the year off with the release of their second single album, “Bad Boy”, consisting of three tracks including the title track of the same name, “Bad Boy”. They would continue their slower and mature sounding songs for this album which made it get 4M album sales and debuted first on the Global Charts.

Sad Girls Club released their sixth mini album, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”, on February 4, 2023, which consists of six tracks, including the title track, “Lion Heart”. Breakfast At Tiffany’s has a '60s aesthetic and is heavily themed around media created from then. i mean not going into whether or not (1) is actually true or not. i do think that the fact that there are "big producers" and especially that theyre proportionally so much bigger now than they were before is part of the reason someone would "focus too much on big producers". like is it not crazy that [fill in the blank with your producer of choice] can get 10 MILLION views on a song in like a month. is that level of popularity not insane.

and regarding (2). not really an excuse but i was thinking. i do think the death of eng sub channels has been really bad for the average english speaking v*cl*id fan music diet. (SETTING ASIDE discussions about unauthorised reposts etc.) someone looking for songs and bringing them back and translating them. and in doing so basically endorsing them through the effort they put in to present it to a different audience. cause like yeah you CAN just go trawling through youtube or niconico search results and get some good unknown songs out of it. but also like. doing that fucking sucks!! it sucks!!!!!!

Okay so I’ve gone on a Tiny Desk Spiral and so am just going to write up a little thing on what I’ve been listening to. And my past favs. Hopefully this post can just grow and grow since I don’t listen to nearly enough of these they are truly amazing. Like most of the time I like it better than the recordings💀

So first off, if you are reading this and haven’t listened yet, GO LISTEN. Truly a masterpiece.

Anyways, I don’t listen to a lot of hip-hop, but for some reason it’s always tiny desk that gets me into a bit of a binge. But even as someone who doesn’t listen to the genre I still just know that it’s fucking masterpiece. The backup singers??? The band???? I listened to Alligator Bites Never Heal and I loved it (especially the second half something about that kind of breathy, smooth quality a lot of the later songs had just HITS you know?)

Anyways, everything about this is SO GOOD and I can’t even really articulate anything more than that

Okay so, I’m not a fan fan of Sabrina’s, I haven’t gotten around to a lot of her stuff but everything I’ve heard has been real good. This tho, I feel like she really leans into that country vibe her voice always has a hint of and she did so good. Genuinely one of my fav tiny desks ever. Bed Chem was a stand out for me, but everything was beautiful and everyone did amazing, not just her.

So a trend you’ll notice here is that most of the music I listen to is like…the most popular in each genre. Like I’m looking at all the tiny desks I have saved, and all but two are like in the millions of views. There isn’t enough time in the day to deep dive into all of the genres I love😭

So I’ve never listened to her before this, but MY GOD. As every comment agrees she’s truly so talented. Her breath control??? Jesus Christ. Anyways tho, as I was watching this I remembered a post on here I saw a while ago saying Megan sings the same subject matter (but like opposite you know) to Hozier, but people don’t give it the same…I don’t know respect? 1. Not even getting to the music, her outfit, wig, make-up, entire vibe, the whole “someone take a picture” was just perfect. I can’t even explain why it was so good but she has an image and she commits. I love her

2. The music!!! her band!!!! Beautiful versions. I’m mainly focused on Picture You because that’s probably my favorite song of hers, but this arrangement was really beautiful. I honestly cannot remember the instruments she used on the album, but the cello truly just brought everything together, this song was made for strings. The way her voice has that, wavery, almost country quality to it just makes me into a Little Freak honestly

Eskimeaux; I have never listened to them elsewhere before or after but I LOVED their tiny desk. Singer has a truly lovely voice

Aurora; I really loved this. I feel like she was a bit nervous, but the emotion on her face was really beautiful and the first few times I watched this there were def tears something about Aurora and everything she does just makes me feel things

Florence and the Machine; enough said honestly my god I love her. Some of my fav of her songs. Her singing voice is somehow a perfect blend of shaky, full, and confident that just hits the spot

Okay first of all — let me explain:

I do listen to other musicians than Fleetwood Mac I have actually 10.000 songs on my iPod (yes I still have an iPod, no I don’t use spotify) and some of my favorite songs are probably, subjectively spoke, even ’better’ than some of the Fleetwood Mac songs chosen here but right now I just CAN‘T listen to anything else. I am sorry. I haven’t listened to anything but Fleetwood Mac for months. That‘s just how it is.

Also, I‘m gonna elaborate a bit on the songs I chose because I like to force myself and my opinions onto people.

1. Sentimental Lady - Fleetwood Mac

I just love that song, it has such an enchanting chorus I could just sing it all day long. Plus Chris‘ voice in the background of the original FMac version is just the cherry on top of the … you know what I mean. I love Bob Welch, so underrated.

2. Show Me a Smile - Fleetwood Mac

This song isn’t particularly special melody wise but I just wonder so much about the lyrics. Chris never had any kids and I highly suspect the song was written about the men surrounding her. They were merely boys back then especially Danny Kirwan. I think she sometimes must have felt like the only grown up in the room. Sadly, we‘ll never know, but it‘s a beautiful and sweet song for sure.

3. Sweet Girl - Fleetwood Mac

I‘ve read somewhere that Stevie wrote that song for Christine and that makes me tear up. She wrote it for The Dance in 1998, they hadn’t been very close back then and I think Stevie very much regretted that. It reflects in the lyrics. I think she wanted so much to let Chris into her life during that weird period of her klonopin addiction but she just couldn’t and she felt sorry for that.

4. Only Over You - Fleetwood Mac

When she sings: ‘Angel please don‘t go.‘ my heart shatters into a million pieces. I‘m actually a strong advocate for John McVie but the true story is that their marriage didn’t last and at some point Dennis Wilson came in and Chris loved him very much. She just couldn’t keep up with him and so it wasn’t to be and I think she was sad about having to face reality.

5. Bleed to Love Her - Fleetwood Mac

Man The Dance is a great album. I chose this mainly because shit you‘ve gotta give Lindsey some credit. He is a god on the guitar and his songs are more than worthy. Bleed to Love Her just sticks in your head and I love that.

Even though I love shopping at malls, I do wish they have more Kirby merch there (especially when it comes to Kirby right back at ya). I would be constantly trying to find posters and most video game posters would be either Super Mario or Sonic. Even though Kirby as a franchise is very popular, I could never find a Kirby poster, so I made my own:

This is not really “Right Back at Ya” themed, but more of a planned spin off I feel like Nintendo should do. My series idea is called “Umarenagara no Hoshi no Senshi” or otherwise known as “Born Star Warrior” (if it was ever dubbed). The series would focus on Knuckle Joe and Sirica’s points of view during the series and not only give them lots of screen time but also give them a lot of character growth and depth. I often think about these two a lot and I feel like they would have a lot of potential when it comes to their lore and careers as Monster Hunters/Bandits. I feel like this series should be split into two parts:

Act one: Sirus (my oc) and the war between the Star Warriors and the Monsters

Act two (specifically for this poster): Knuckle Joe, Sirica and the aftermath of the war from Arthur and his men’s perspective

Whenever I am chilling in the car, I usually pull up my phone and listen to the BEMANI Music while daydreaming about my spin off idea.
